1. What is Reiki?

Reiki ("universal life force" in Japanese) is a healing practice, used to facilitate the flow of energy to address physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional challenges. Its historical roots lay in Japan and Tibet. It's over a hundred years old and is now becoming more mainstream as an alternative and complimentary therapy to work alongside Western Medicine.

2. How does Reiki work?

The University of Minnesota scientists theorize that reiki balances a "biofield" of energy. Biofield is a "term medical science has adopted for the intricately layered vibrational energy field that is said to surround and penetrate the physical body." Other practices that work with this subtle vibration of biofield energy include acupuncture, qigong, shiatsu, yoga/pranayama, and Healing Touch Program (accredited by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission of Accreditation).

3. What happens in a Reiki Session?

A hands-on healing session involves the recipient laying down in a relaxed state, concentrating on a breathe exercise. I'm intuitively guided through several hand positions where the body is open to absorbing Reiki energy. I often incorporate crystal healing to balance the traditional Chakras as well as cleans and heal the recipients auric field. While doing all of this, I intuitively gain information to share with my client once the session is over.

4. Where does the session take place?

Reiki sessions are conducted in-person and also can be done at a distance, so essentially allowing you to receive Reiki healing from the comfort of your home from anywhere in the world.

5. When will I see results?

Some of my clients see results immediately, depending on the issue. Other clients take many sessions over months to undo complex and multilayered issues. No specific result is guaranteed. Most clients feel an immediate a sense of well-being, calm, light, and openness, regardless of their original issue.

6. What will my first session feel like?

What one experiences during a Reiki treatment varies somewhat from person to person. However, feelings of deep relaxation are usually felt by all. In addition, many feel a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and surrounds them. As the Reiki energy encourages one to let go of all tension, anxiety, fear or other negative feelings a state of peace and well-being is experienced. Some drift off to sleep or report floating outside their bodies or have visions and other mystical experiences. At the end of the treatment, one feels refreshed with a more positive, balanced outlook.

7. How often should I get a Reiki Treatment?

Most people who have Reiki Treatments get it done on a regular basis just as they do their nails, hair, and doctor appointments. I call it spiritual hygiene to have a Reiki Treatment at least once a month, or every four to six weeks. It all depends on your lifestyle. People who are working and living in high energy areas or who are in proximity to a lot of people, its strongly suggested to have it done more regularly say every three weeks

8. Is Reiki a religion?

Although Reiki energy is spiritual in nature, Reiki is not a religion. Practitioners are not asked to change any religious or spiritual beliefs they may have. They are free to continue believing anything they choose and are encouraged to make their own decisions concerning the nature of their religious practices.

9. Are there side effects to Reiki?

Most of the time a person will feel relaxed and uplifted by a Reiki treatment.  The beautiful thing about Reiki works in conjunction with regular medical or psychological treatment. Reiki energy works in harmony with all other forms of healing, including drugs, surgery, psychological care or any other method of alternative care and will improve the results.

However, sometimes a person will have what is called a healing crisis. As a person’s vibration goes up, toxins that have been stored in the body will be released into the blood stream to be filtered by the liver and kidneys and removed from the system. When this happens, sometimes a person can get a headache or stomach ache or feel weak. If this happens, it is a good idea to drink more water, eat lighter meals and get more rest. The body is cleansing as part of the healing process so this is a good sign.
